Five Decades of Fireworks
'On 6th November 1999, Hexham Round Table
will be hosting the last Bonfire-night fireworks of this millennium. The Annual
Grand Bonfire and Firework Display was started by Hexham Round Table in the
mid-1950s, and with an estimated 5000 or more attending has become the largest
and best event of it’s type in Tynedale. Eamonn Leavey, Chairman of Hexham
Round Table explained, “This years event is going to be the best we’ve
done, with more money than ever being invested in the fireworks. The people of
Hexham are very generous each year in their donations to this event, and as well
as everyone having a good evening out, thousands of pounds are raised to be
donated to local charities and good causes”.'
